This course provides the basics for understanding the International Energy Conservation Code, beginning with what is energy conservation, why it is necessary and how it is accomplished.


The course objectives are to provide the participants with:

1. A understanding of energy basics, such as heat transfer, heat resistance, etc.;

2. The importance of proper code application, plan review, and inspection;

3. Amending, adopting and applying the IECC.


.40 ICC Preferred Provider CEUs will be awarded for attendance. 


Presentor:

Shirley Ellis, C.B.O. | Energy-Code Specialist, Energy Systems Laboratory

Ms. Ellis has been active in developing, enforcing and promoting codes, and providing code training, for over 38 years in various municipalities, private companies and institutions. She has been working for the Energy Systems Laboratory (ESL) at Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station, since 2004, as ESL’s Texas Emission Reduction Plan energy code expert, providing state-wide energy code technical support to the State, municipalities and councils of governments and to individuals in the building industry. She has  worked directly for US Greenfiber, the Austin Energy Green Building Program, and the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA), as an energy code expert, and also, as a building official/inspector at various cities in Texas.

Ms. Ellis is active in code development, currently she serves on the ICC Board of Directors. In that role she has served on various committees, including CEO Evaluation, Council Policy, By-laws, chaired both the Resolution and the Awards Committees. She currently serves as the Board Liaison to Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Region X, and the Global Membership Council. She has 20 years of experience as an ICC contract instructor and subject matter expert. Serving on several Boards and committees for various code organizations, beginning with a legacy organization - the Southern Building Code Congress (SBCCI), and continuing in the ICC, and ICC Chapters - the Building Officials Association of Texas (BOAT), the Bluebonnet Chapter, the Capital Area Building Officials Association, the Texas State Association of Plumbing Inspectors (TSAPI) and the Women In Code Enforcement and Development (WICED). 

Ms. Ellis has lobbied building codes issues in Legislatures at the Federal and State level and delivered hundreds of trainings across the United States, in Jamaica and in China, to Building Officials, Inspectors, Builders, Developers, City Officials, Architects and Engineers in the areas of plan review, inspections, certification study skills, software use, and ordinance and code development.

In addition, Ms. Ellis has received several awards, among them the ICC Affiliate of the Year, 2006, the BOAT Industry Person of the Year, 2005 and the Austin Home Builder’s President’s Award, 2005.
